Cash runway

If more money goes out than comes in each month, your cash has an expiry date. Work out how many months you can keep operating with what you have today and how a one-off payment changes it.

How it is calculated

  • Net monthly burn = monthly payments − monthly receipts.
  • Each month, cash falls by the net burn (and by the one-off payment in the month it is due).
  • Runway = months that can be covered before cash is not enough for the next month.

Assumptions

  • The same payments and receipts every month.
  • No new financing or one-off income.
  • The calculation is monthly: if a large payment is due early in the month, also check the weekly cash flow forecast.
