Profit reflects the income and expenses recognized in a period. Cash records when money is collected and paid. A sale on credit can pull the two apart.
An example with numbers
You deliver a service for $10,000 and have $6,000 of costs already paid. If the income and costs belong to the period and the client has not paid yet, the profit on that service is $4,000, but the cumulative cash flow to date is −$6,000.
Try it with your numbers
Note separately the delivery date, the date costs were paid and the date of collection. Check what changes in profit and what changes in cash on each date.
